Present: Jerry Botts, Dave Harris, Jean Roy, Larry Thomas, Gloria Johnston, C. Robert Ames, Brad McIntyre, Nikki Tappana, Walter Hays, Jayne Sill, Rick Kiwala, Phillip Cook, Lisa Knutzen
I. Minutes – A motion was made by Jayne and seconded by Jean to approve the minutes as presented. Motion passed.
II. Treasurer’s Report – Lisa reported the following balances at the end of January: Youth Fund - $1,818.30, Christmas Fund - $9, 145.06, and Chamber Fund - $2,714.71.
III. School Tax Levy: Phil said the Board has placed a fifteen-cent tax levy on the April 5th ballot. The district has recently grown by 260 students while 8 teachers, 31 paraprofessionals, and 2 administrator positions have been cut. This levy will increase the teacher fund to hire 10.5 teachers and 6 additional teachers to teach remedial math and reading creating a positive impact on our students’ achievement. Lisa made a motion for the Chamber to support the levy, seconded by Jayne. Motion passed.
IV. Visitors – The Chamber welcomed Edward Jones’ Brad McIntyre who plans to have an office in Carl Junction in the next six months; Loretta Coburn, a new chamber member and owner of girlfriends; and Gloria Johnston, owner of the Giftshop on Joplin Street.
V. Old Business – Walt thanked Jerry for working on a job description for the Director of the Chamber/Economic Developer. Walt will meet with the Executive Committee to update the bylaws, develop a budget and draft a contract to present to the city. Walt is also mailing 292 membership letters today to licensed CJ businesses, former members, and Webb City, Joplin and Carthage chamber members. Walt’s goal is to have 125 members by the end of the year.
VI. New Business – The Chamber decided to wait on joining the MO Chamber of Commerce until we have a Director. Our website has been moved from Fast Freedom to R. Ames’ server to cut down on costs. Robert will determine a monthly charge later. Lisa has sent in the Girls and Boys State application for our students. The Chamber is looking for a site for a March Business open house. Walt sent around a committee sign up list for 2005. The Farmer’s Market is in need of a new chairman. Our Chamber joined the MO Farmer’s Market Association. The market needs to start getting vendors for its end of April/first of May opening. Larry expressed appreciation for the Chamber’s ribbon cutting at Southern Maid Donuts. Congratulations went to Jean Roy, named Realtor of the Year. Rick mentioned that MO American’s Water area is growing faster than the company. The City wants to add staff to flush the hydrants. Robert needs news for the Chamber’s website. He can be reached at carljunctioncc.com. Lisa will form a committee to begin working on the Chamber Awards Banquet. Nikki reported that CJ Caring Communities Site Council is working on a student job fair and a literacy fair for May. They will also be promoting the fluoride issue on the April 5th ballot.

Adjournment: The meeting was adjourned at 8:30 a.m. to proceed to a ribbon cutting at the Giftshop.
