Carl Junction Area Chamber of Commerce

June 2, 2005

Lisa reported the following account balances as of May 31, 2005:

      Youth fund             $1,110.30
   Christmas fund          9,145.06
   Regular account      4,478.01

   Report was approved by Lisa, seconded by Elaine.

Lisa made motion to approve May minutes as read, seconded by Joe.

Old Business:

   The May minutes stated Kyle Colwell was scheduled to play piano at the June Awards banquet however do to a conflict was unable to.  LeeAnn Bogart graciously agreed to play the chamber music for us.

New Business:

    “Thank You” cards were read from various nominees for the Banquet.

   A “Thank You” card was also read from Destination Imagination for our contribution.

   It was reported that approximately 162 guests attended the 2005 Awards Banquet.

   The CJ Farmers Market will be open for business this day and each Thursday thereafter throughout the summer months.

   CGI has been communicating with area businesses to replace the existing banners along Pennell and Main Streets.  These will have a new design and color.

   CJ businesses along Main Street will be hosting the first Chamber’s “Business after Hours” on June 16, 2005 beginning at 5:30 p.m. It will be held in the yard of Community Bank & Trust.  Hot dogs, chips and drinks will be served.  Businesses in East of town are invited to host one later in the summer.

   There will be no regular meeting held in July, 2005, however Walter stated he may schedule an evening meeting with a speaker from Red Cross. 

   Joe reported the new Police Station building is scheduled to be completed by August.   Will consider scheduling a ribbon cutting along with a grand opening.

   Phil reported summer school began June 1.  A new funding formula has been approved by the state.   23.5 positions have been added.  Regular school year begins Aug. 17.  Larry reported he will be in charge of the Chamber’s gift of donuts to each school employee on opening day.  The city is planning to change streets around elementary school to one-way to improve traffic flow.
