Regular fund not available
Lisa reported she had paid Lee Ann Bogart $25.00 for providing piano music at the
Award's Banquet. The Chamber paid approximately $345.00 towards the dinner bill
of the banquet.
Lisa also reported we have received 2 new memberships - Jim Kessler of Pro Forms
and Jim Henson of the Christopher Dumm Law Office.
We have received approximately $200 for Vender's fees and $86 in parking fees to
date from the weekly Farmers Market we are sponsoring.
Old Business:
A Thank You card was read from Jennette Hoyle for her award at the Award's Banquet.
New Business:
We will again furnish donuts for all school employees on August 17. 25 dozen will be
ordered from Daylight Donuts. Lisa, Jayne and Cyndi volunteered to deliver them to
each school building.
It was decided we will donate $100 toward expenses of the Sept. Fall Festival and
not furnish free bottled water this year.
A discussion was held on a theme for the annual Christmas parade on Dec. 5. It was
decided to make the theme similar to the Award's Banquet. The theme will be "Holiday Steps into the
Past, Present and Future".
We would like to purchase additional Christmas decorations again this year. Phillip
will ask students if they can construct a frame for a large Christmas tree. The chamber
would pay for all supplies as well as the greenery and decorations for the frame. Joe
stated the tree and the existing reindeer and other lighted decorations we already have
may be displayed on the vacant lot between the fire station and funeral home. He will
make sure electricity is furnished to the lot.
The annual Christmas banquet will be held Friday, Dec. 2. Elaine will contact Briarbrook
Country Club to reserve that date.
Joe reported erroneous rumors have been circulating about the opening of Broadway
and Verbryck streets near the school. He asked the Chamber to support the decision
of the city and school on this matter. The main issue for opening these streets is for the
safety of the school children. Sidewalks will be constructed along these streets. Well
Street will be a one-way street North to South) which is the opposite it is currently.
Joe also reported on the construction of the new Police Station. Completion date has
been moved up to possibly October. The city is planning a large grand opening with
several dignitaries invited.
Jayne asked Joe if he would ask the police department if it is possible for police
officers to check, after closing hours, the doors of local businesses to confirm they are
secure.
United Way will be selling Joplin Globe newspapers at the corner of Main & Pennell
in CJ to benefit the Literacy program.
Steve will check with the company that has sold the existing banners along CJ streets.
Their service has not been satisfactory so may consider canceling the agreement.
