Minutes of June meeting read and approved.  Lisa 1st, Duane 2nd.

Treasure’s report:   General Fund  - $3,907.21
                        Christmas Fund - $10,344.76
                        Youth Fund - $534.40

Walter opened meeting reporting that the annual CJ Bluegrass Festival to be held in Sept. needs volunteers, chili cook-off entries and craft vendors.

Old Business:  Phil reported a great crowd attended the Carl Junction night at Cardinal Baseball stadium in Springfield.  About 550 tickets were sold.

Steve reported the Farmers Market has added 2 new vendors.  However more customers are needed.

Walter reported the 301C3 application has been given to Attorney James Hanson and he has not received a report on the status of the application, however Walter will contact him.

New Business:  Leona reported she will order the greenery soon that will be used to complete the large Christmas tree frame that the school Agriculture Department constructed last fall. The CJ Lions club has agreed to help with the decorating.  Jimmy Chaligoj, manager of CJ’s Street & Water Department has agreed to let us do this project in their maintenance shed.

Lisa reported “Thank you” notes were received from the school groups that attended State contests.

Maribeth reported the city has hired Steve Lawver as part time Economic Development personnel.

She also reported that “Choice Marketing” has agreed to print promotional literature for the City and also the Chamber.  They will be contacted to see if they can meet with us at the Sept. Chamber meeting.

The maintenance contract on the existing banners along Pennell has expired.  All future maintenance will have to be done by the city.

The city’s 125th anniversary will be in 2007.  It is hoped something special can be planned.

The city of Carl Junction is placing a .5% increase in the city’s sales tax on the November Ballot.  The funds will be placed in a special account to be used first for city parks and second for transportation such as streets and sidewalks.

The Mayor is putting together a Capitol Improvement task force for capitol improvements suggestions.  He is gathering names of volunteers.

Walter reported the meeting room in the School’s Administration Building has been remodeled into an office so is no longer available for the Chamber’s meetings.  Maribeth will contact the Police Chief to see if we can conduct our meetings in their court room.

Carl Junction has opted out of the statewide sales tax holiday scheduled for the week-end of Aug. 5.

Steve asked if the city has considered a sign ordinance for the city.  Walter stated it has been discussed but no decision has been made.

Mid Missouri Bank is planning a Business After Hours Thursday, Oct. 19, 5:30/7:00 p.m.

Phillip reported they are holding open meetings for the public to discuss future facilities and growth.  The 2005 Senior class had a total of 170 and to date there is 207 enrolled in the 2006

Kindergarten class.  One potential possibility is to build a new Junior High building near the High School.  No decision has been made about placing a tax increase on the Nov. ballot.
