Carl Junction Area Chamber of Commerce Monthly Meeting

Minutes of the August meeting were read by Karen Fritchey.

Walt Hayes stated that it was decided in the Board of Directors meeting  it was not necessary for approvals of minutes or Treasury reports at regular Chamber mtgs.

The  Treasurers report was given by Lisa Knutzen as follows:
Balance of the Youth fund---$534.40
Balance of the Christmas fund---$10,252.56
Balance of the Chamber fune---$2,412.63

Walt reminded everyone that Sat. Oct. 7th is the City-Wide garage sale. Maps of sale locations will be available on Friday morning at Remax.

Walt also reminded everyone that choice marketing is presently visiting businesses to sell ads for the new directory.

Leona Stice sent a report that the Christmas tree frame and greenery are being moved to the city maintenance shed. Monday, October 23, was the date set to work on this project. The Lions Club has volunteered to help the Chamber on this project at 6:30 p.m. The total cost is est. to be $1,100, however, billing has not been received.

Lisa stated that on Dec 2nd there will be a “Christmas Homes Tour”. The money raised will go to help the CJ Choir for their trip to NY. The choir will also perform at the Tea from 10:00 – 2:00 at Briarbrook.

Lisa announced that the Choir will also host a Golf tourney on Oct. 28th . Cost for a team is $200.00. The Choir will  also host a chili feed at the High School on Nov. 2nd, from 4:30 – 7:00 p.m.

Lisa reported that per a recent study only 55% of  parents in the CJ school district are registered to vote. She encouraged everyone to help get people registered.

Oct. 19th is the CJ Chamber Business after hours. This will be held at Mid-Missouri Bank from 5:30 – 7:00.

Janey announced that they are starting to work on the “Little Jingle Bells” Christmas contest. If anyone is interested, they can contact Janey to help with this committee.

Jerry Botts asked about the status of the Christmas coloring contest. It was agreed that Jerry would chair this committee and proceed with the contest.

Walt read a letter from FCCLA of CJ Schools. The letter was a request for a donation to help in cost of attending the National FCCLA in St. Louis. Lisa made a motion to contribute $100.00, and seconded by Janey.

Lisa announced that the 4 students the Cof C sponsored for National History Day were very successful. All 4 students from CJ made the finals. There were 11 total from Missouri in the finals.

Walt introduced Mr. Charles Shaver of the Missouri Career Center in Joplin. Mr. Shaver spoke of his background and offered his services to area businesses. Mr. Shaver offered to help businesses develop relationships with their customers to sustain growth, and keep a lasting commitment to the community. He stated that his services are taxpayer funded, and all information is confidential. Business cards and and introduction sheet were handed out to Chamber members present.

A motion was made by Karen Fritchey that Choice mktg. should give a $1,000 refund to the chamber if they are successful in obtaining ads for the new directory. This motion was seconded by Roy Deem. It was also noted that the City should also be refunded. (Prior discussion was held in the Board of Directors meeting)

Walt questioned the location of Chamber meetings, and all present felt the Police Dept. was the best location. Lisa Knutzen will look into a coffee pot for this location.

With no further business, meeting was adjourn by Walt Hayes.
