Carl Junction Area Chamber of Commerce

Minutes were read by Secretary.

In absence of President Walter Hayes, Duane Hukill led meeting.

Old Business: Choice Marketing report was tabled due to absence of Walter Hayes.

Rob Plott reported the advertising received for business directory is 25% less than predicted. However they will continue with the 16 page color booklet as agreed. Steve Lawver, Tracy Scaggs, Maribeth Matney and Lisa Knutzen have agreed to do the proofing for the final document.

Charles Shaver was present at the October meeting and he has stated he will schedule meeting with business owner for assistance with a consulting service. More information will be presented at a later date.

New Business: Leona reported due to the lack of participation in past Business After Hours that we consider discontinuing them. It was decided the Chamber would host one annual Business After Hours somewhere in down town area. June 21, 2007; 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. was chosen as the date. 

Jim Whisenant suggested that we wrap all 2007 activities around the city’s 125 anniversary. He suggested that a committee be formed for focus on this anniversary. Steve Fredrickson volunteered to represent the Chamber on this committee.

Jim presented a draft of a City logo. Purchasing 125 year banners was discussed with no decision made. Also will consider doing lapel pins with this logo.

Jerry Botts suggested we consider making an auxiliary sign to be attached to the main CJ sign at entrance to the city to promote various activities. Jim Whisenant will check into this to see if it is feasibility.

Phil Cook reported on CJ School Bond issue (Proposition KIDS) which will be on the ballot in the Nov. 7, 2006 election.

Jim Whisenant reported on the City Sales tax issue in the same election.

Leona gave report on the 2006 Christmas activities. The theme for the Christmas Parade is “Christmas Fun for Everyone”. The date will be Sunday, Dec. 3, 2006; 2:00 p.m. The Mr. Elf and Miss Jingle Bells registration will be Thursday, Nov. 2, 2006, 6:30 p.m. at the fire station. Parade invitations have been mailed. Norma Thomas (2006 Senior Citizen of the year) will be the Grand Marshall.

The 18 foot artificial Christmas tree is being worked on. CJ Agriculture students will reconstruct the frame and then we will have to place the garland on it on Monday evening Nov. 6.
